Alzheimer's Disease Alzheimer's Association: a national voluntary health organization, provides information and services to people with Alzheimer's, caregivers, researchers, physicians, and health care professionals. Alzheimer Research Forum: A scientific knowledge base on Alzheimer's disease, with research news, expert commentaries, and databases for peer-reviewed articles, drugs, research reagents, grants, jobs conferences and more. ADEAR (Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral Center): ADEAR maintains information on Alzheimer's disease research, diagnosis, treatment, drugs, and clinical trials, and Federal Government programs and resources. Health Information on AD from the National Library of Medicine: All-in-one search site with links to recent news items, symptoms and diagnosis, research, statistics, clinical trials, coping issues and other resources. Alzheimer's Disease Brain: A site from the Federal Consumer Information Center illustrating degenerative neurons in the brain and the areas responsible for motor, vision, sensory, speech and memory functions. An additional link provides information about Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer's Disease and Research Center: Located at Washington University in St. Louis Caregiving Caring Tips from the Perspective of the Person with Dementia: An Australian writer with Alzheimer's disease provides practical advice on how to handle 20 care giving situations. Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Center: Articles on driving, care giving tips, nutrition, communications, stress management, depression, interactive caregiver stress tools and a free e-mail update service. Planning for Long-term Care: A National Institute on Aging site that explores the options for long term care, with articles on planning ahead, making the right choice, and making a smooth transition. ALZwell Caregiver Support: A page for caregivers. Medline Plus: A service of the National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of Health National Alliance for Care giving: Supports public awareness of issues facing family care giving. National Family Caregivers Association : Created to educate, support and empower those who care for chronically ill, aged, or disabled loved ones. Other Tools DASN International: Promoting respect and dignity for persons with dementia. Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI): Links to 57 AD associations throughout the world. ClinicalTrials.gov: Current trials and research database with citations from published works. Manual of Geriatrics: Internet version for families and professionals with a wide range of disciplines and geriatric diseases. Journal of Alzheimer's Disease : An international multidisciplinary journal to facilitate understanding of Alzheimer's disease and provide an open forum for original research. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke NeedyMeds: is a place to learn about patient assistance programs for prescription medications. It has a list of more than 1100 drugs with links to programs that will help pay for them, if there is one, and the guidelines to qualify for those programs. This is an information source, not a site to help individuals with their specific problems. Benefits Check-Up: This site is a service of the National Council on Aging. It assists people over the age of 55 in finding programs that may pay for some of the cost of prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other essential services. Rx for WV: This site is a clearinghouse program that connects qualified, low-income people with discount prescription drugs, direct from the pharmaceutical manufacturer. Alzheimer's Disease Explained: This site is designed to provide the public with a simplified introduction to the disease and an explanation of complex medical terminology. The Nun Study (University of Kentucky, Sanders-Brown Center on Aging describes a longitudinal study of aging and Alzheimer's funded by the National Institute on Aging. Medicare: This official U.S. government site for people with Medicare has a wealth of information, including detailed information on Medicare-certified nursing homes and home health agencies. Office of Health Facilities Licensure and Certification WVU Center on Aging Link-Age provides information on resources and services for older West Virginians. WVU Center for End of Life Care provides coordination, education, and resources so that West Virginians will have their pain controlled and their treatment choices respected.
